Berber has been a spot I’ve been eyeing for years. Not sure if it is the same place but they use to have tents. As soon as you step foot inside it is a whole new world.we got the VIP experience which comes with a few extras(great seating, cocktail with every course, picture opp with performers)
-Bread with 3spreads: fresh baked bread that pairs perfectly with all three spreads.
-Sweet Potatoes(not pictured): sweet potatoes with goat cheese and honey were the best part of the night if you ask me.
-Sea Bass: first time having sea bass and it melted like butter paired perfectly with the vegetable couscous.
Baklava: freshest baklava I have ever had
Dinner and a show in the city you couldn’t ask for more. The service and food were good, just not sure it is a Michelin. The wait staff is good but they are so busy that you don’t feel complete in that area but not their fault, there is a lot of moving parts to the show. All of the performances were good. Just a tip we booked the 7:30 show and didn’t leave until around 10, great event.
Overall, I would give Berber a 2.5 out of 5 stars, but Google doesn't allow decimal rating, so I'm rounding it down to 2 (it's really hard for me to justify a 3 star rating).
Berber is a Moroccan restaurant that offers a unique dining experience with live music and dancing. My friends and I went to Berber for the restaurant week. They had 2 prix-fixe menus, one with 4 courses and another one with 5. The 5 course menu had roasted branzino in addition to everything on the 4 course menu.
We opted for the 5-course prix-fixe menu, which started with a butternut squash soup served with dukkah spice and Greek yogurt. The soup was creamy and flavorful, and the dukkah spice added a nice nutty crunch.
Next, we had the Berber salad, which consisted of county line mixed greens, heirloom beets, and walnut balsamic dressing. The salad was fresh, and the beets were a nice touch, but it was slightly lacking in flavor. I wish there were more pomegranates.
The roasted branzino was served with raisins chermoula and roasted baby Yukon potatoes. The branzino was cooked well, but it wasn't deboned properly. My friend and I had a few bones in our branzino dish. The chermoula added a bright and flavorful touch, but there wasn't enough of it, and the fish lacked flavors and seasoning. The potatoes were delicious and perfectly cooked.
You could tell the lamb shanks were cooked well because the meat was falling off the bone. Though I will say the lamb was a bit gamey for my liking.
For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse cake, which was served with cardamom cream and raspberry sorbet. The mousse was rich. The cardamom cream added a nice complexity and was definitely a dominant flavor in the dessert. If you don't like cardamom, then you may not enjoy this dessert. The raspberry sorbet was a refreshing contrast to the chocolate mousse, and it had a very smooth texture.
We also got a free cocktail for checking in online on Yelp. We tried sarab and Moroccan 75, and they both were quite bitter (not our taste preference).
The service was a bit slow at times. We had to wait quite a bit between courses and had to constantly ask our waiter for a water refill.
The restaurant was full of people, and the music was loud, but it was easy to have a conversation with my friends at the table.
The food wasn't for me personally, but the service was okay, and the atmosphere was great.
Brought our mom here to celebrate her 80th birthday! The service was excellent and attentive. The food was delicious. The lamb tagine was tender and juicy. The Moroccan chips crispy and well seasoned. The trio of bread dips was amazing -- each a delightful flavor. The couscous was filling and flavorful. The octopus was a good portion, but a bit rubbery. We even had mint tea which took my taste buds back to my time spent in Morocco. The atmosphere was electric and mysterious. The performers were personable and talented and we appreciated how they greeted every patron and announced all celebrations. My mom really enjoyed herself and was excited to have this memorable experience. Thanks Berber for a great evening!!
I kicked off my birthday week with dinner and a show at Berber SF last night and it was fantastic! The food was very good, lovely exotic Moroccan flavors. The service was wonderful, staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The show was highly entertaining! Will go back! Highly recommend!
Berber in San Francisco deserves nothing less than a glowing 5-star review. This hidden gem instantly transports you to a world of Moroccan delights. From the moment you step inside, the vibrant décor, rich colors, and intricate patterns create an immersive atmosphere that sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
The culinary journey at Berber is an absolute delight. The menu is a masterpiece of Moroccan cuisine, offering an array of aromatic dishes that tantalize the senses. Each bite is a fusion of spices and flavors that dance harmoniously on the palate. The tagines are a standout, with tender meat and vegetables soaked in flavorful sauces that evoke the essence of Morocco.
The service is equally impressive, with a staff that is not only knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about the cuisine they serve. Their attention to detail and willingness to guide diners through the menu enhances the overall experience.
Berber's commitment to authenticity is evident not only in the food but also in the live music that complements the ambiance. It's a complete sensory journey that leaves you feeling like you've traveled to the heart of Morocco.
In summary, Berber is a culinary treasure that captures the spirit of Morocco flawlessly. From the flavors to the atmosphere, every element is a testament to their dedication to providing an exceptional dining adventure.
It was a nice experience having dinner with the show. The dinner had a prix fixe menu of bread, olives, lamb tagine, and baklava for dessert. The drinks were great and the food was good, however, it was a pricey evening out.
I just got back from Marrakesh and miss it so much already.
We went to Berber in SF for the Persian New Year Celebration high tea and we had a wonderful time. The staff was attentive and friendly throughout my visit. Even though most of them are not Berber (a member of the indigenous People from North Africa), they remind me of Moroccans a lot. So genuine, so much passion & their hospitality.
The food was amazing and authentic to Marrakesh. I was blown away by the flavors and textures in each bite. The standout for me was the cocktail, which was the perfect complement to my meal. According to Michelin guide, Berber's cocktail is top-notch must-try. Bartender Bo is the best.
We haven't got the opportunity to watch dinner show. It looks like circus do Soleil, can't wait for my next dinner show 3 course experience.
We went for the nightfall show for a date to end our trip and it was such a great time. Food was very flavourful, cocktails were some of the best I've had. The performances were paced perfectly and there is time in between for conversation so it won't feel like a movie-theatre-date. The performers were super impressive and my jaw actually dropped the entire time. It was on a pricier end but even if no food it would've been worth the price.
